Mauritius promotes regional cooperation through stronger economic and business ties with South Africa

As part of its investment promotion strategy focused on regional cooperation and the consolidation of business ties, the Board of Investment in collaboration with the Financial Services Promotion Agency is leading a high-profile delegation of thirty stakeholders to a roadshow in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa from 8th to 12th May 2017.

To further stimulate south-south cooperation, Mauritian projects will be showcased to investors at business forums organised in the two main cities. In addition, one-to-one meetings are high on the five-day mission agenda.

Some 300 South African businessmen and 30 Mauritian economic operators have already confirmed their participation.

South African participants are keen on exploring business opportunities in the manufacturing, freeport, logistics, agro-industry, financial services, ICT-BPO, life sciences, healthcare, education, real estate, the knowledge sector, renewable energy and film industry.

Furthermore, fifty South African companies have expressed their interest for business networking with Mauritian counterparts.

The business forums will be held in Cape Town and Johannesburg on 8th and 11th May, respectively. They will provide insights on sectoral and regional opportunities.  South African companies will have the opportunity to get better acquainted with the dynamic business environment in place in Mauritius, the island’s economic openness as well as its International Financial Centre geared towards cross-border investments, trade and finance.

South Africa remains an important regional partner for Mauritius. FDI from South Africa amounts to some MUR 1.97 billion, representing some 14 % of foreign investment. South Africa also represents 8 % of total tourist arrivals to Mauritius.

The Mauritius Economic & Trade Office located in Sandton, in collaboration with the Mauritian High Commission in Pretoria, the Honorary Consulate of Mauritius in the Cape and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of both cities are actively engaged in this promotional event.
