Air Asia, the first long haul, low cost airline to operate in Mauritius as from 4th October 2016

The announcement of inaugural Air Asia flight on 4th October 2016 bears testimony to the Prime Minister`s vision to make Mauritius a regional platform for trade, investment and services. 

The Government has a liberal approach to open air access. Thus, in line with the strategy to enhance air connectivity, Air Asia will operate three flights weekly to Mauritius as from 4th October 2016 and five flights weekly, as from July 2017.

Government Launches Multi-client Geotechnical Surveys for Hydrocarbon Exploration in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Mauritius, the birth of a new industry

To fully capitalize on the prospects presented by its vast ocean territory, the Government of Mauritius has launched an Expression of Interest (EOI) for Multi-client Geotechnical Surveys for Hydrocarbon Exploration in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Mauritius. The EOI, closing 29 June 2016, is the first step in the development of a new industry in Mauritius that could turn in a game changer for the country. Four blocks of 108,000 sq.Km, 18,000 sq.km, 20,000 sq.km and 228,000 sq.km respectively have been earmarked for prospection. Suitable companies, consortium or joint ventures are invited to join in the establishment of this new economic sector.

The Board of Investment gears up to boost quality investment in the education sector

The Board of Investment participated in the "Going Global 2016 Conference" from 3rd to 5th May 2016 in Cape Town. Hosted by the British Council UK, "Going Global" is an international conference which serves as an open forum for global leaders to discuss current issues relating to international education. Pertinent issues were discussed during the conference on the following main topics:

  • Education policy: local priorities, national systems and global drivers
  • Economic development: skills, enterprise, research and innovation
  • Engagement: democracy, social justice and international relations
