Introduction


Tourism and hospitality is a major industry in Mauritius; it contributes significantly to economic growth and has been a key enabler in its overall development strategy. The sector contributes approximately 18% to the country’s GDP and in 2009 there were more than 800,000 tourists.


The hospitality sector is unmatched in relation to the diversity of sectors it encompasses such as hotels, leisure parks, green and health tourism, restaurants, tour operators, training institutions, airline companies, etc. Developing the hospitality sector as a robust and vibrant industry has always been a top Government priority.


The property development sector or real estate is a global business; it is a market that attracts a range of international investors, lenders, occupiers and developers seeking cross-border opportunities. The sub-sectors include the Integrated Resort Scheme, Real Estate Scheme, Invest Hotel Scheme, business and industrial parks, shopping malls, office buildings and marina development.
