The progression of Mauritius towards a strategic centre for global business services has been both organic and vision-driven. Leveraging on a long history of political stability, free market economy and good governance, Mauritius has perfected its transformation from a once mono-crop dependent economy into a thriving business and financial hub on the doorstep of Africa.

The week will be a showcase of how Mauritius is forging a stronghold in the highly competitive global business arena, bringing together world-renowned industry specialists and creating strong links with local service providers with the potential to give further impetus to Mauritius as a global business delivery platform of choice.

An innovative and green data hosting centre
With the coming into operation of a second international fibre optic cable and the country’s modern business and regulatory framework, Mauritius has the potential to become a regional centre of choice for data hosting, disaster recovery and business continuity services. Additionally, the application of revolutionary Sea Water Air Conditioning (SWAC) technology as a sustainable substitute to conventional high-energy consuming cooling will open up interesting avenues for positioning Mauritius as a Green Data Centre destination.

A competitive outsourcing destination
In the BPO and IT-enabled services sector, Mauritius is rapidly making a name for itself. A.T. Kearney’s Global Services Index currently rates Mauritius amongst the world’s top 25 outsourcing destinations. The country’s modern telecommunications infrastructure, solid IT backbone, bilingual talent pool and competitive business costs combined play a pivotal role in the success of our BPO vertical. The global outsourcing market is expected to top USD 100 billion in 2009, benefiting both from long term growth trends and new opportunities emerging from the global economic downturn. With Mauritius currently exporting less than 0.5 billion USD of IT-BPO services, the potential for increasing the country’s share of this global market is tremendous.
