Work Opportunities for first-class professionals
As a growing professional services platform in this part of the world,
Mauritius offers huge scope for further advancement to qualified and
experienced French and English-speaking professionals, eager to avail
themselves of the many opportunities offered by a booming country with regional
outreach.
Opportunities exist for accountants, finance and marketing professionals,
architects, investment bankers and risk managers, business consultants, IT and
multi-media professionals amongst others.
Occupation Permits
An occupation permit allows a non-national to reside and work in Mauritius. It
is both a work and residence permit. An investor, a professional or a
self-employed person may be eligible under the following conditions:
Investor: The proposed business activity should generate an annual
turnover in excess of Rs 4 million; the investor should make an initial
investment of US$ 100,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible currency.
Professional: The basic monthly salary of a professional under a contract
of employment should exceed Rs 75,000 to be able to register in Mauritius
Self-employed: The annual income from the proposed activity should be in
excess of Rs 600,000, make an investment of US$ 35,000 or its equivalent in
freely convertible currency It takes three days to process and obtain a
residence permit which is issued for a maximum period of three years.
The dependents of an occupation permit holder may also apply for residence
permits.

Retiring in Mauritius
Mauritius offers an exceptionally safe, hospitable and pleasant environment for
people from over the world to come and retire on the island. There are ample
accommodation facilities, from fully-serviced apartments to luxurious villas
and beach-front residences.
While the cost of living is affordable, medical and health services are of a
world-class standard.
Non-nationals are also allowed to acquire residential property under special
schemes known as the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS) and the Real Estate Scheme
(RES).
To help with an increasing interest from retirees to settle in Mauritius, the
Government has come up with a special residence permit for retired
non-citizens.
A residence permit for retired non-citizens allows an eligible person to reside
in Mauritius for three years. To be eligible, the retired non-citizen,
irrespective of age and nationality, must undertake to transfer to his/her
local bank account in Mauritius at least USD 40,000 annually, or its equivalent
in any convertible foreign currency so as to meet his/her own living expenses
in Mauritius. The applicant must make an initial transfer of US$ 40,000 when
first settling in Mauritius.
After three years, the retired non-citizen will become eligible for a Permanent
Residence Permit if he/she has in effect transferred a sum of USD 40,000 each
year to his/her local bank account.
