Doing Business Index 2010 – World Bank

Please find below a statement from Constantine Chikosi, Country Representative, World Bank Mauritius Office.

Mauritius ranked 17 out of 183 economies in the 2010 Doing Business Survey, making it the star of the Africa region for the second consecutive year. Mauritius has been a consistent reformer since it joined the Doing Business survey in 2005 and this year, has reformed in six out of the ten business regulation areas measured by the report. It is now looked upon as a benchmark not only in the Africa region but across the world. It is well poised to achieve its objective of breaking into the Survey's top ten economies in the world. The challenge for Mauritius now is to keep up the momentum and remain committed to implementing the reforms as there is no room for complacency.

We commend the Government for pursuing and deepening its bold market oriented reforms. These reforms have cushioned the Mauritian economy from the worst effects of the current recession and positions it in good stead for a quick rebound when the recovery begins. The World Bank has been working very closely with the Board of Investment, which is leading these reforms, together with the different line ministries, agencies and the private sector. We are proud to be part of the team that is working on improving the business climate and on the broader competitiveness agenda of the Government.
